The architects at Ospa want to bring sports to the next level ... literally.
The Brazil-based firm imagined a two-tier sports stadium called Campus Igara, where athletes would play basketball on the first floor and soccer on the roof.
The concept won in the sport stadium category in this year's Future Projects Awards, a competition that celebrates innovative urban design. Nearly 200 architectural firms from around the world submitted entries.
Take a look at the design.
The 25,000-square-foot Campus Igara is designed for UFCSPA, a health science university in Canoas, Brazil that offers degrees in nutrition and sports management. From above, the field looks like it's levitating.
In addition to serving as a practice and game space, it would also house classrooms and offices. The designers said the stadium would be more user-friendly than a typical one, since theirs has wide entrances on both ends.
Inside, there would be an elevated walkway that overlooks the basketball court. The plan calls for more stairs than elevators to encourage both student health and social mingling, Ospa says.
