Having a balcony that overlooks the city may seem like an impossible dream if you don’t already have one, but a Danish design company is changing that.
Popular European brand Velux has reinvented the balcony with their Cabrio window, first spotted by Reddit user Handicapreader. Handicapreader posted a video of the Cabrio in action five hours before this writing and the post has already climbed to the front page of the site with over 700 comments.
Judging by the videos and photos available, there's not a lot of room where you can actually stand outside. But while the Cabrio seems less like a balcony and more like a cool place to lean, it's still pretty clear once you see it in action why Reddit is going crazy for it:
Some commenters on Reddit took to calling it a “Murphy Balcony,” a play on the well-known Murphy Bed which can tuck away into cabinets, walls, and furniture when not in use.
Others were concerned that the top window could drop down on their heads, but the company says that the hinges and latch mechanisms are specially designed to stay put. And if that fails, there is a 10 year warranty.
Our only advice? Don’t leave it open for too long otherwise you’ll find your house filled with bugs.
Prices for the balconies start around €1,900 or $2,100 and go all the way up to roughly €6,000 euro or $6,600.
