The Invisible House - Joshua Tree, California

Designed by American Psycho film producer Chris Hanley and architect Tomas Osinski, the Invisible House holds true to its name.

Located on 90 private acres bordering Joshua Tree National Park, it blends in with the surrounding desert thanks to its mirrored glass exterior.

From certain vantage points, the house resembles a skyscraper placed on its side.

From other angles, it's practically invisible. "If you're just in the right place ... the house disappears," Hanley told Business Insider.

For the past year, Hanley and his wife, Roberta, have made the home available for corporate events, film and photoshoots, weddings, and retreats.

Rates start roughly at $1,000 per hour for events and $5,000 per day for small-group getaways.

Hanley told Business Insider that one of his favorite details about the home is when the changing light outside integrates with the pool lights, which shift between blue, red, green, turquoise, and violet.

"If you're swimming or watching the news on TV while you're swimming, and the lights are changing — that's a great thrill," he said.
